505 Games and Buka Studios have announced a new Xbox 360 exclusive called The Swarm.
Scheduled for release in May, The Swarm is a third-person shooter set in Moscow, Russia where aliens have invaded and a nuclear catastrophe has left the city blanketed in fallout. In a nod to Gas Powered Games’ PC action-RPG Space Siege, The Swarm will let you choose how to progress your character through the game — absorb alien DNA to unlock more powerful abilities at the cost of eventually mutating into an alien monstrosity, or maintain your humanity, fight back the alien menace and help find the antidote to cure your allies of mutation.
Ambitious concept for what is obviously a low-budget game — check the screenshot gallery for proof of that — but if the developers can pull off the choice system this could be an interesting sleeper.
“This is not your standard third-person shooter,” said Adam Kline, president of 505 Games U.S. “The game’s adaptive combat allows players to mold their characters, draw them into the alien takeover and force them to make tough decisions typically not found in other shooter games.”
