Check this out, dood! NISA just dropped the latest “Prinny Bomb” newsletter, and among the four included announcements comes news that the long-awaited trophy patch for PS3 SRPG Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice is scheduled to go live on July 16th at 1:00am PST. That’s next week, yay!
The patch will introduce 50 trophies in total (plus a Platinum, of course), all of which have been outlined in this handy PDF file containing the complete list of trophies and their requirements, as provided by NISA.
And just so you know, like all PS3 games that have had trophies patched in after the fact, Disgaea 3‘s trophies will not be retroactive. You will have to start up a new save file in order to get them. It’s also very important to know that the patch will update the game’s system file, rendering old save data unusable in the process. So if you’ve already logged hundreds of hours with the game and don’t care about trophies, DO NOT install the patch or you’ll lose your save files. You’ve been warned!

Seriously? That’s a bit harsh …
Glad I didn’t start Disgaea 3 until after I had started and finished Disgaea 2 (which I’ve now put off until after Cross Edge).

If it’s anything like past patches, it’ll update your save files. If it updates your save files, you can bet that trophies will work then. Obviously you won’t be awarded the trophies retroactively, which is what I think the press release meant to say.
This is a direct notice from the press release:
“CAUTION: Trophy Patch Update will make old save data unusable.”
So basically, if you want trophies you’re gonna have to start from scratch. But if you don’t want trophies, just forget about the patch and keep on playing as is.
Wow sweet, wish they would add trophies to other last year games like, eh hem, MGS4.
How is Disgaea 3 anyway? I love RPGs maybe I’ll pick it up now.

Well, it seems like NIS scared folks for no reason. I’ve read reports that the trophy patch doesn’t do a damn thing to old save files. Anyone test it?
