Sony Rolls Out Classy Gran Turismo PSP Bundle, Makes PSPgo Even Less Appealing

With the economy continuing to struggle along and the current PSP-3000 doing just fine, the PSPgo doesn’t exactly seem like it has a place on the market right now, and Sony isn’t exactly doing a whole lot to make it an attractive buy.

We all know about the price. At $250 it’s damn expensive, especially when you factor in how the PS3 now costs only $50 more than that! But I can live with the price because at least Sony has been up front about the fact that it is aiming the PSPgo at early adopter techies willing to pay a premium. Same thing Apple does with its products.

But now I am really confused!

Today, Sony has announced plans to release a Limited Edition Gran Turismo PSP Entertainment Pack on October 20th, including a Mystic Silver PSP, a UMD copy of Gran Turismo, an exclusive PSN voucher to download a white Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, a 2GB Memory Stick, a PSN voucher to download a movie (title still TBA), and yet another voucher to download 10 free songs from Sony Music Pass. All those goodies will cost only $200. That’s a pretty sweet deal, right?

Of course, the catch is that this is a PSP-3000 bundle, whereas in Europe it is the PSPgo that is launching with GT PSP bundled in. My question is then, why would anyone want to pay more for the PSPgo when you can wait a couple weeks and buy this bundle with $50 to spare?

I don’t know, Sony. Unless you package GT (or at least something in addition to Rock Band Unplugged Lite) in with the PSPgo I think you’re shooting yourself in the foot with this one…

Sony is offering those who register their PSPGo between Oct 1 - 10 a copy of GT for free. But it is still a crappy move that really muddies the waters …

Really, when was that announced? I’ve only heard about a free copy of GT PSP being offered in Europe. I haven’t heard anything about such an offer for the US.

Oh crap, you’re right! … well didn’t MY pre-order suddenly become an even MORE glaring example of unnecessary wasteful spending … :(
