Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Wakes Up This Summer

Available in Japan since early January, Kingdom Hearts PSP prequel Birth by Sleep is on track for a summertime launch in North America, Square Enix confirmed today. However, what month and day it will ship on is anybody’s guess at this point.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep takes place prior to the original Kingdom Hearts and will follow aspiring Keyblade Masters Terra, Ventus and Aqua on an epic adventure that will reveal the “untold origins” of the entire franchise, and you’ll need to play through the game as all three characters to experience the full story.

In addition to new multiplayer modes and enhancements to the combat system, Birth by Sleep will also finally introduce Disney worlds that the series has yet to explore, including the Enchanted Dominion from Sleeping Beauty, the Dwarf Woodlands from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Castle of Dreams from Cinderella, and Deep Space from Lilo and Stitch.

Sounds great to me, and as long as it’s better than 358/2 Days on the DS — which I thought added a whole lotta nothing to the series — I’ll be very happy.

Back once Squenix confirms a specific launch date. Sit tight!
