Activision Forms Wii Shovelware Brand

Oh dear, seems like the new fad amongst publishers is to form cute Wii-centric brand labels that pander to the console’s casual audience. Activision is the latest to do so, today announcing the formation of the Wee 1ST “consumer initiative,” a new brand label to place on the boxes of games that were designed specifically for the Wii. The Wee 1ST campaign is set to launch this fall just in time for the holiday season, and the first three titles to get the new branding are Little League World Series 2008, Rapala Fishing Frenzy and Dancing with the Stars: Get Your Dance On. So, umm… yeah, it’s basically a new brand aiming to push more Wii shovelware onto store shelves. Yippee!

“The Wii is introducing new audiences to gaming,” said Dave Oxford, Activision Publishing. “Clearly, the Wii’s accessible controls are changing how the audience plays games and how we look at game design. This initiative is designed to showcase games that take full advantage of the Wii’s capabilities.”
