First Universal Pictures goes and turns a board game that should never be made into a movie into a movie. Now Activision is taking that movie based on a board game that shouldn’t be made into a video game and turning it into a video game. Are you following me here?
In clearer terms, Hasbro’s classic tactical board game Battleship has been adapted into a sci-fi invasion film starring Liam Neeson (why, Liam, why!?), and Activision is taking that film and turning it into a generic-looking sci-fi FPS developed by Double Helix for PS3 and Xbox 360 (Magic Pockets is also making 3DS, DS and Wii versions). Oh, it’ll feature “strategic naval command” gameplay as well, so at least it won’t be completely unrelated to the source material.
This is the debut teaser trailer for the video game that shouldn’t be made based on the movie that shouldn’t have been made based on the old board game that’s awesome. Or something like that. I’m just rambling in disbelief at this point.

In 2004, three years removed from high school and still looking for a career direction in life, Matt landed his first gig in the video game review business writing for the now-defunct website BonusStage.com. After the sad and untimely close of BonusStage, the former staff went on to found VGBlogger.com, and after a short stint as US Site Manager for AceGamez Matt turned his attention to VGBlogger, and to this day is dedicated to making it one of the top video game blogs in all the blogosphere.
Matt is a fair-minded reviewer and lover of games of all platforms and types, big or small, hyped or niche, big-budget or indie. But that doesn't mean he will let poor games slide without a good thrashing when necessary.
