All Video Game Remakes Should Look Like This

DeviantART member Orioto has created some breathtaking concept artwork presenting his vision for remakes of classic 2D video games. That beautiful image above is his concept for a Yoshi’s Island remake, and he’s done equally amazing work for other favorites like Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Phantasy Star IV, Castlevania, Mega Man, Contra and more.

Remakes and reboots are incredibly popular right now, and any publisher thinking about remaking an old game should seriously look this guy up. Ubisoft’s UbiArt program is already incorporating a similar artistic approach into upcoming games, including the episodic Rayman Origins, and Orioto himself is bringing his artistic wizardry to an upcoming indie title called Swimming Under Clouds. So his concepts are certainly feasible — though they’ll never become real playable games I’m afraid. But we can still dream, can’t we?
