It seems like the Angry Birds craze ended a while ago, replaced by Flappy Bird and other mobile gaming fads, but that’s not stopping Rovio from squeezing every last penny that it can out of the property before it dies completely.
At this point, it’s hard to believe that Angry Birds will be much of a draw in the summer of 2016, when the animated feature film takes flight in theaters. Then again, any animated movie with cute anthropomorphic characters is likely to make beaucoup box office bucks these days. In this case, a strong cast of voice actors and actresses should help put extra fannies in movie theater seats.
Starring roles for the Angry Birds movie by Sony Pictures Imageworks have been filled by Jason Sudeikis (as Red, the lead Angry Bird), Josh Gad, Danny Mcbride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, and Peter Dinklage, rounded out by an ensemble supporting cast of Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, Romeo Santos, and Smosh.
That’s a pretty impressive cast of modern comedy/acting talent. Does it make you any more or less interested in seeing the movie when it debuts on July 1, 2016? Or are you just so over Angry Birds to care anymore?
