Capcom today finally confirms its PC launch schedule for its three biggest games of the year.
Bionic Commando and Street Fighter IV are due on store shelves in July, both optimized with new features just for the PC. Bionic Commando, for instance, will support higher resolutions and both DX9 and DX10, remappable controls, and mouse and keyboard support (dur!). SFIV will also support higher resolutions along with three shader options — “watercolor,” “posterization” and “sumi-e ink” — so you can actually make the in-game graphics take on the art style of all those amazing “artisitc” trailers Capcom produced last year.
But the big news here is that Resident Evil 5, previously only announced for PS3 and Xbox 360 (and released for said consoles back in March), is officially on for a PC port. The cooperative survival horror action of RE5 comes to Windows this fall, and for those who actually use it the PC version will support NVIDIA’s new GeForce 3D Vision technology. Now you’ll be able to blow off zombie heads in real 3D!
Well seeing as the most terrifying thing about RE4 for PC was the shockingly bad quality of the port … 😉
That bad, huh? I’ve never had the need to play any of Capcom’s PC ports but I haven’t heard much good about most of them.
Well, they eventually sorted it to an extent – but you know how good RE4 was … they really messed it up with lousy performance, crappy texture with too much light … and no mouse control!
No mouse control in a PC game!? That’s just plain silly!
But yeah, that sucks. RE4 was fantastic. Bought and played every version of it (well, except for the PC version of course) and each one was better than the last. Started with the Cube, then the enhanced PS2 port, and then the most recent Wii edition was the best of all.
I’m ashamed to admit though that I have yet to play RE5, other than maybe 5 mins with the demo.
Way I look at it – there is too much emphasis on turning the game industry into the movie industry: ‘4 weeks and out’. Sure with hot multiplayer games there is a desire to get in with the crowd … but I often find that after the crowds thin out there are better games to be had. Playing Soldier of Fortune 2 MP in ~05 was wonderful (~3 years after release).
I have the Wii version of RE4 as well, and compared to the PC it is like a completely different game. I mean, why even bother releasing such a terrible port?
