Yes, BioShock 2 will feature a multiplayer mode. Not sure who was asking for one — at least I didn’t see any need for one, nor did I see that the game’s style was all that suitable to multiplayer — but we’re getting one anyway. But hey, the good news is 2K Games is going all out to ensure the multiplayer experience is as deep and compelling as the solo campaign, and it actually sounds like it could be really damn cool.
2K has signed a partnership with Digital Extremes and specifically tasked the developer with crafting the multiplayer mode. BioShock 2‘s multiplayer is said to be a prequel experience set before the fall of Rapture that enhances “the lore and fiction of the BioShock universe.” Players will assume the roles of Plasmid test subjects for Sinclair Solutions and fight to survive the dark depths of Rapture. As you play you will accrue experience points and unlock new Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics to use in customizing your test subject to your play style.
The next issue of PC Gamer, which should be going out to subscribers and newsstands any time now, has an 8-page cover story debriefing the multiplayer mode in full. But for now you’ll want to check below for the early list of multiplayer features from 2K’s press release.
BioShock 2 Multiplayer Features:
· Evolution of the genetically enhanced shooter – Earn experience points during gameplay to earn access to new Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics that can be used to create hundreds of different combinations, allowing players to develop a unique character that caters to their playing style.
· Extend the Rapture fiction – Players will step into the shoes of Rapture citizens and learn more about the fall of Rapture as they progress through the experience.
· See Rapture before the fall – Experience Rapture before it was reclaimed by the ocean and engage in combat over iconic environments in locations such as Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites, all of which have been reworked from the ground up to deliver a fast-paced multiplayer experience.
