CDV has issued the final box artwork for its upcoming and highly-anticipated PC and Xbox 360 action-RPG Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, and, well, you’re looking at it right here. Only the PC box art has been released thus far, but I don’t imagine that the 360 cover will look any different. Everything you’d expect to see on the cover of a fantasy RPG is in place. The good vs. evil theme, the epic battle shot, dragons, treants, et cetera, et cetera. Really looking forward to seeing more on the Sacred 2 front in the months ahead. I love a good action-RPG and it’s shaping up to be one of the best of the year.

I really liked the original Sacred (as well as the expansion). Not a huge action-RPG as I like my RPG’s with a bit more ‘meat’, but they are good fun. Also, Ascaron deserves kudos for how they handled support – the original was released terribly buggy, but they quickly polished it up and released what was intended to be a paid update for free! Can’t wait for September to play this one! (and Fallout 3, of course)
Never played the original, but supposedly this sequel is going to take place in an open-ended world and it sounds like it’s going to have quite a bit of depth to it in terms of character development. Hopefully it pans out, lookin’ good so far.
Matt – don’t know if you have GameTap, but they just released it (Sacred Gold, which includes the original, the ‘Plus’ patch, and the Underworld expansion) a week or so ago for the service. Best $60 a year I can imagine …
Actually, I don’t have GameTap. I’m not a big fan of downloadable game services. I use them sparingly for games that are download only, but in general I’m one of those people that if I buy a game, I want to have a physical copy of it. Same with any media.
Used copies of the original are going pretty cheap online, so I’ll pick one up here at some point.
That’s funny – I thought it was old curmudgeony guys like me who were supposed to decry digital downloads … not hip young people like you 😀
But I don’t look to GameTap as a replacement for owning games – it is a nice arcade system and also a way to avoid using CD’s of games I love (Badur’s Gate, etc), getting old games working easily (Betrayal at Krondor, Might & Magic II, etc), and playing games I wouldn’t pay $50 for (Kane & Lynch, etc).
I may be “young and hip” but I’m really sort of an old soul when it comes to gaming. I appreciate the convenience and immediacy of digital download services, and I use stuff like PSN, XBLA and some PC services to get games that are download-only, but in general I just don’t like digital downloads. I don’t feel like I truly own the game.
