Capcom’s Faux Mega Man 9 Box Art

Check out this little beauty. As part of a marketing plan to promote Mega Man 9 like a real NES release from the 80’s, Capcom has created mock retail packaging complete with authentically recreated NES-style box art and cartridge. Mega Man 9 will be a download-only game for PSN, XBLA and WiiWare, though, so the actual game won’t be in the box. Rather, Capcom will be sending these special packages out to select “friends from the press” as press kits containing an asset disc loaded with artwork, screenshots and game info housed inside the fake NES cart. Plans to put a limited stock of 200 of these kits up for sale on the Capcom Store are being kicked around as well, possibly including vouchers to download the game from PSN or XBLA as an added bonus. Better keep your eyes peeled if you want one. The very second they go on sale you just know there’ll be a mob of fans at the ready refreshing the Capcom Store in their browser trying to snatch them all up.
