de Blob – VGBlogger.com http://www.vgblogger.com Celebrating geek culture -- Books, Gadgets, Video Games & More! de Blob 2 is only five days away from launch, but if, like me, you are having trouble waiting, pop over to Facebook or Kongregate and play de Blob Revolution, a newly launched Flash game that quickly satisfies the urge to paint the world every color of the rainbow.

de Blob Revolution condenses the platform painting gameplay of the main console games into a simple and visually vibrant puzzle game. Each level is set up like a maze, and the objective is to navigate the grid, rescue the Graydians, and reach the exit without crossing de Blob’s paint trail. It’s pretty easy, but there are higher difficulties to unlock, and as the game progresses a timer is introduced and eventually Inkies begin chasing after you.

Better still, within the app are free downloads for five desktop wallpapers and three full songs from the game’s hypnotic soundtrack, so you’ll want to check it out just for those freebies.

Oh, and while you’re in a de Blob mood, go ahead and watch the new ‘AntiSocial Network’ trailer as well. It should definitely put a smile on your face at the end of a long day.

de Blob Wants to Hook You Up With a 65″ 3D TV http://www.vgblogger.com/de-blob-wants-to-hook-you-up-with-a-65-3d-tv/8706/ Wed, 16 Feb 2011 16:54:36 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=8706 deBlob2Sweepstakes.jpg

How would you like to win a 65″ 3D TV? OK, that’s kind of a stupid question I guess. Obviously EVERYONE would love to win a 65″ 3D TV!

THQ, Mitsubishi TV and their pal de Blob, star of the upcoming platform paint-’em-up de Blob 2, are here to make the dream a reality for one lucky gamer out there. Underway since yesterday, the “de Blob is Looking Good Sweepstakes” is scheduled to run through February 22nd — the launch date for de Blob 2 on DS, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. During the sweepstakes period, seven daily prize winners will be selected to each receive a de Blob fan pack containing a t-shirt and a set of six figurines. Then at the end of the giveaway, one grand prize winner will take home a luxurious prize package consisting of a Mitsubishi WD-65838 65” 3D television, a copy of de Blob 2, and the aforementioned fan pack.

Entering the sweepstakes couldn’t be any easier, either. To toss your name in the hat, all’s you gotta do is visit and “like” de Blob on Facebook and enter your email address. Follow the link below to enter.

So, What’s New in de Blob 2? http://www.vgblogger.com/so-whats-new-in-de-blob-2/8214/ http://www.vgblogger.com/so-whats-new-in-de-blob-2/8214/#comments Fri, 14 Jan 2011 19:40:36 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=8214 deBlob2.jpg

I was poking around the THQ press site in search of some assets to accompany a review I’m working on for the Costume Quest ‘Grubbins On Ice’ DLC, and I stumbled upon a new PR sell sheet for de Blob 2 with a comparison chart comparing the sequel to the original. So I thought it would be fun to take a look at that a little closer and show it to you guys.

As you can see in the accompanying chart, de Blob 2 has been beefed up (or should I say ‘blobbed up?’) across the board. The key difference is of course the switch to a multi-platform release, breaking free from the Wii exclusivity of the original in favor of a broader release on the DS/DSi, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii (a 3DS version is rumored to be in development as well). That means even more gamers get to join the Color Underground and help thwart Comrade Black’s latest scheme to rid the world of color!

deBlob2Comparison.jpg

Additionally, the chart says the sequel will offer 16 hours of gameplay (compared to the original’s estimated 10 hours), plus “classic [2D] platformer levels, low gravity space, and 1.5 multiplayer.” And no, I have no idea what those last two mean. On top of all that, there will be nine enemy types (up from three), five new power-ups, a new charge attack ability, three new main characters and a new co-op mode.

But wait, there’s still more. Recently it was revealed that PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D support are planned for the PS3 version, and the X360 version is supposedly also getting 3DTV support — but there don’t appear to be any plans for Kinect usage. There will apparently be some form of DSi-exclusive feature in the DS version, too. Not sure what that will be, but given the game’s ‘paint the world’ theme, my guess is it’ll have something to do with taking photos with the DSi camera and painting them.

It sure sounds like THQ and Blue Tongue thought of EVERYTHING possible to ensure de Blob 2 is better than the first game in every way — and the first game is already one of the most charming, colorful and unique games to grace a console in a long time. So yep, I’m super-duper excited!

All versions of de Blob 2 are scheduled to paint retailers red on February 22nd. Check below for the latest trailer short, “Air Traffic Controller,” and pics from each platform.
