Disney Interactive Studios is going BIG with its two top game releases this holiday season, today confirming that both Epic Mickey for Wii and Tron: Evolution for PS3 and Xbox 360 (versions are also in development for DS, PC, PSP and Wii) will be available in special edition box sets alongside their standard edition counterparts. Special editions that sure will go nice with those collectible controllers Disney also has PDP working on for Epic Mickey and Tron.
Toys ‘R Us actually jumped the gun on the whole Epic Mickey deal, as numerous sites picked up on a leaked retailer listing for the product over the weekend. But just to make things officially official, the Epic Mickey Collector’s Edition will include a 5″ Mickey figurine made of vinyl, a pair of Wii console skins with matching Wii remote faceplate, a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and a nice, big, decorative box to stow it all in. It’ll cost $70, compared to $50 for the standard edition. Retailers list Epic Mickey for a November 1st launch, but Disney has not yet confirmed an official street date.

As for the Tron: Evolution Collector’s Edition, it is even more extravagant, if you can believe it. The $130 CE, again available only for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, will come with a replica light cycle model crafted by Sideshow Collectibles and a sexy display case with a built-in storage drawer housing the game. A tad pricey for sure, but certainly a collectible for hardcore Tron fans to go nuts over. Tron: Evolution will be released on December 7th, 10 days prior to the theatrical debut of Tron: Legacy on December 17th.
Any takers out there? I’m tempted to nab the Epic Mickey set, but I think one collector’s edition will be enough for me this holiday season.

Last week during E3, gaming accessory manufacturer Performance Designed Products (PDP) announced a collaboration with Disney to create collectible controllers for upcoming titles Epic Mickey for Wii and Tron: Evolution – The Video Game for PS3, Wii and Xbox 360, and I was eager to post about them the second I received the press release. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any pics of the controllers at the time, and there was no way I could post about these amazing accessories without images to do them justice.
Well, today I finally got my hands on product shots for the entire line, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to share them with you.
Included in the product lineup are wired, illuminated controllers for all three versions of Tron: Evolution, a Wii Nunchuk controller modeled in the form of Mickey’s magical paintbrush, and a statuesque Wii Remote charging system depicting Mickey Mouse’s epic battle against the Phantom Blot, whose head lights up while charging. Rechargeable batteries will come with the remote stand, and the Mickey figure will actually be removable.

All of the controllers will be out this holiday season timed with the release of their respective games. The Tron: Evolution controllers will retail for $50 each, but pricing has yet to be set for the Epic Mickey collectibles.
Don’t know about you, but I want ’em all!

]]>PERFORMANCE DESIGNED PRODUCTS (PDP) CREATES COLLECTIBLE CONTROLLERS FOR DISNEY EPIC MICKEY AND TRON: EVOLUTION, THE VIDEO GAME
Special Branded Multiplatform Controllers and Collectible Charging System Coming From PDP For Two Great Disney Interactive Studios’ Games
LOS ANGELES, CA – JUNE 15, 2010 – (Virtual Press Office) – Performance Designed Products LLC (PDP), an industry leader in designing and manufacturing products for all major video game platforms, announced today that it has collaborated with Disney Consumer Products (DCP) to create unique game controllers for Disney Epic Mickey and TRON: Evolution, two amazing video games coming from Disney Interactive Studios. PDP is releasing TRON controllers for the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation3 (PS3) system and the Microsoft Xbox computer entertainment system, as well as a special secondary Wii controller and charging system for the Wii remote for Disney Epic Mickey. The controllers and Wii charging system will be available to consumers at the launch of the respective games.
Disney Epic Mickey is an action-adventure platforming game for the Wii
console that sends Mickey Mouse on an epic journey of creativity and discovery. As Mickey, the player is propelled into Wasteland, an alternate world with lands inspired by Disney’s animated films and theme parks, and is given the power to wield paint and paint thinner to dynamically change the world and determine Mickey’s path to becoming an epic hero. To commemorate Mickey’s debut on WiiTM console, PDP and DCP are bringing to market two very special items to complement the game: a Paintbrush controller and a Wii remote charging system. The Disney Epic Mickey Wii secondary controller is designed to resemble the magical paintbrush that Mickey wields in the game world, complete with wood-grained texture and soft, safe foam tip. The Disney Epic Mickey Wii remote charging system is something no Disney collector should be without. The charging system features a removable Mickey Mouse battling his nemesis, the Phantom Blot, and comes with rechargeable batteries for a Wii remote.
The official TRON controllers from PDP are multiplatform, bringing the look and feel of the TRON universe directly to the hands of gamers. Based on the designs of both the film and game, the TRON controllers will feature unique, performance-enhancing contours and design, rubber grips with a soft-touch finish and perforated details and light-up accents reminiscent of the TRON universe to illuminate late-night gaming sessions. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 controllers are corded controllers with precision parts and vibration support, while the Wii controller is wireless. All three controllers carry and MSRP of $49.99 and will be available this fall in time for the release of TRON: Evolution -The Video Game.

Of everything Nintendo had to show off during its E3 keynote — the 3DS, the return of Kid Icarus, and all the predictable Wii franchise updates — Disney’s Epic Mickey is the game that stood out most to me.
Created by Warren Spector and Junction Point Studios, Epic Mickey is a platform/adventure RPG for the Wii based around the idea of altering the world and its characters by painting and erasing objects into and out of the environment, with interactions based around a system of choices and consequences similar to an RPG.
Tying the experience together is a surprisingly dark tone and an epic story encompassing 80+ years of Mickey Mouse history and both familiar and forgotten Disney lore. So it’s sorta like Kingdom Hearts without the Final Fantasy JRPG slant — sign me up!
Learn more about this magical Wii exclusive after the break, where you’ll find the E3 trailer, a developer diary video, and new screenshots.
