By now I’m sure you’ve heard that Nintendo’s WiiWare downloadable game service has been launched and that one of the first launch titles showcasing the new service is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. What you may not know, however, is that the title already has downloadable add-on content available that can be purchased to further expand upon what the game has to offer, which is a pretty neat thing to see in a Wii title. In case you are wondering what the base game includes and what add-on content is currently available, here are a couple of charts, as provided to me by Square Enix, to help guide you on your way to managing a kingdom of your own. Click the left thumbnail for an overview of all the content included in the base game and the right for a look at what add-on packs there are and how much they cost.
Some of it seems a bit pricey, but overall it’s pretty good. The only thing I’m uncertain of at this point is just how much space these expansion packs take up. As any Wii owner well knows, the console doesn’t have a whole lot of internal storage space to work with, so stuff like downloadable content doesn’t sound all that viable unless file sizes are kept minimal. I’ll check in with Square Enix to see if I can get some clarification on this matter. Will let you know what I can find out.

Announced at GDC as one of the first titles due out on WiiWare when it goes live in May, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King is shaping up to be an excellent early showcase for Nintendo’s new downloadable game service. While the screenshots from GDC were already beautiful enough, Square Enix has since posted the debut trailer to the game’s official website, so you’ll want to head over to check it out.
