Beta sign-ups are now being accepted for Sony Online Entertainment’s upcoming family-friendly, free-to-play MMO Free Realms. If you’d like to get an early peek at the lands of Free Realms and all the fun mini-games and adventuresome activities it has to offer, visit www.freerealms.com, hit the “Sign Up For Beta!” button and register your info. Currently, the beta registration is only open to North America, but European beta sign-ups will open soon. Also keep in mind that this beta is only for the PC version. Free Realms is being developed for PS3 as well, but there’s been no word yet if/when there’ll be a console beta test.

Think about that. A freebie MMO on a console, that’s pretty exciting. You can find a ton of them on PC, but for the console gamer community this is a significant development that deserves more attention. Hopefully this 12-minute developer walkthrough will help get the word out. Sure, the game is clearly being crafted for the casual audience with its Disney-meets-EverQuest style, but many of the ideas going into it look like they should be fun for gamers of all types.
