Sega Celebrates Sonic Chronicles Going Gold With First Dev Diary

Time to celebrate if you’re a Sonic fan. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood has gone gold today and is officially slated to ship September 30th. Better still, Sega has released the first of three developer diary videos going behind the scenes with the BioWare team to show how the kooky idea of melding Sonic and RPGs into a compelling DS title came together. Dev diary 1, “The Vision,” is available for viewing below.

Hey, You Got Elite Beat Agents in My Sonic Chronicles!

Seriously, check out this new combat trailer for Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. The guys at BioWare must’ve been playing a whole lotta Elite Beat Agents around the time they started putting this game together. The timing- and reflex-based attack mechanics look eerily similar to those in iNiS’s classic DS rhythm game, and that’s perfectly fine by me. I’d much rather see something a little different in my DS RPGs opposed to the more conventional stuff I can get plenty of on my PSP and other platforms.

Here’s a pre-order bonus that actually has some use. GameStop is currently offering a Sonic Chronicles stylus 3-pack to those who pre-order the Sega/BioWare DS RPG Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. As you can see, the styli come in gray, blue and red colors with character charms of Shade, Sonic and Knuckles dangling from the end. Neato!

Sega Launches Cool New Sonic Chronicles Website

A fun new website for Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood has gone live and is well worth checking out if you’re looking forward to seeing just how the Sonic universe will translate into an RPG. It serves as sort of a web-based preview of the game itself, allowing you to navigate Sonic around a couple environments and collect rings using a stylus-shaped cursor, clicking context-sensitive buttons to jump ledges, run through loops and interact with other characters to find out more about the game. If you collect all the rings, you unlock a nice downloadable wallpaper too! Of course, if you don’t feel like bothering with the finicky cursor controls, there is a quick-navigation menu to access all the content at the click of your mouse.
