Super Monkey Ball for PS Vita is custom built specifically for the portable’s motion-based control features, putting the gyro sensor, dual analog sticks, touch screen and rear touch pad to good use while rolling along the moving platforms, hazards, and narrow, spiraling pathways of the game’s floating, banana-filled obstacle courses. New worlds, new mini-games, enhanced graphics and Wi-Fi multiplayer for up to four players are other key features to keep your monkey eye on.
“Since evolving onto the current generation of consoles, the Super Monkey Ball franchise has always offered innovative game design, challenging the hardware capabilities for all the consoles it has released on,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA of America. “Super Monkey Ball for PlayStation Vita is a great opportunity to experience the exciting features that the PlayStation Vita system offers and the SEGA development team is bringing an exciting new experience while staying true to the franchise.”
The announcement teaser trailer is embedded up top, and below you can find the first screenshots.

Super Monkey Ball is going 3D, y’all!
AiAi, MeeMee, GonGon and Baby are rolling onto the Nintendo 3DS next year in the tentatively titled Super Monkey Ball, and they’re bringing with them three play modes — single-player puzzle stages, Monkey Race and Monkey Fight — wireless multiplayer for four players, and control options to play the game using the 3DS motion sensor or the Slide Pad.
“The moment I saw the features of the Nintendo 3DS, I could not help thinking how perfectly Super Monkey Ball would work on this new hardware. I could quickly picture myself holding the Nintendo 3DS using the motion sensor and playing Super Monkey Ball” commented Toshiro Nagoshi, creator and developer of the Super Monkey Ball franchise. “The simple gameplay allows players to enjoy the 3D graphics to the fullest and now that we have brought this vision to life…bingo! We have our all-time favorite Super Monkey Ball experience with the new excitement of the Nintendo 3DS!”

Sega has quite a nice roster of games shipping this week, including two next-gen offerings, a sure-fire PC hit and a revived classic for the GBA. On the next-gen docket, Sega has shipped Sonic The Hedgehog for the 360 (with a PS3 version set to follow later this holiday season) and Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz for the Wii (which I just got in this morning actually- just need to get a Wii now!). Sonic The Hedgehog has been rated “E10+” by the ESRB and retails at $59.95, while Banana Blitz has earned an “E” rating and an MSRP of $49.99.
For the PC gaming crowd, Sega has also shipped Medieval II: Total War, The Creative Assembly’s highly anticipated latest installment in its beloved Total War strategy franchise. You can pick up Medieval II, which has been rated “T” for Teen, at your local game shop now for $49.99, or hold off until tomorrow when it will be made available for download on Steam.
And last but not least, Sega has a little something for you portable gamers with the new release of Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis, an enhanced GBA port of the original Sonic classic released just in time to commemorate Sonic’s 15th birthday! Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis is rated “E” for Everyone and retails at a suggested price of $19.99.
If that still isn’t enough, Sega also has Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP, Charlotte’s Web for the PC, GBA and DS, and Sonic Riders for the PC all due to ship this week as well. Sega certainly seems to be keeping busy for this holiday season…
]]>As I also pointed out in my previous post regarding the Wii’s launch window lineup, Sega has now confirmed its 2006 lineup of Sega Genesis titles that will be available for downloadable purchase on the Wii’s Virtual Console. These titles will include Sonic The Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Ecco the Dolphin, Gunstar Heroes, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine.
“Nintendo has offered a great gateway in bringing classic SEGA titles such as Sonic The Hedgehog, Altered Beast and Toe Jam & Earl to Wii console owners,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America. “This is only the beginning though, as you can expect to see more announcements regarding other legendary titles from SEGA’s catalog coming to the Wii Shop Channel in the coming months.”
These Sega Genesis games will be available via the Wii’s Shop Channel, priced starting at 800 Wii Points apiece.
