The Last Guardian – VGBlogger.com http://www.vgblogger.com Celebrating geek culture -- Books, Gadgets, Video Games & More! Tue, 16 Jun 2015 05:43:52 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Sony Announces Three Games You Probably Thought Would Never Happen http://www.vgblogger.com/sony-announces-three-games-you-probably-thought-would-never-happen/33329/ Tue, 16 Jun 2015 00:43:52 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=33329 FinalFantasy7_Remake_PS4_E32015

It was one thing for Sony to open its E3 2015 conference with the return of The Last Guardian, now a PlayStation 4 exclusive. That game had at least been announced before. It’s just wonderful to finally get proof that the project is in fact alive and kicking when most gamers had long since written it off as vaporware.

Let me be clear: The Last Guardian is back, and it looks absolutely incredible. And it is scheduled to launch sometime in 2016.

As hard as it may be to believe, the other two games were the real show-stealing surprises. Two games that fans have been asking for and asking for, seemingly to no avail. But they are happening.

Oh wait, what are the two games? Surely you already know by now, but of course I am referring to Final Fantasy VII Remake (not final title) and Shenmue III. And they say dreams can’t come true.

Square Enix has confirmed that full production is underway on Final Fantasy VII Remake for PS4. The wording during the announcement stating that the game is coming “first to PlayStation 4” would seem to indicate that eventually the remake will come to other platforms. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

The project is in development led by a team of key original Final Fantasy VII developers, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura, and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima. This shit’s going to be epic!

Shenmue III is another story. Legendary Sega game designer Yu Suzuki took the stage to announce the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to get the sequel funded for release on PC and PS4, powered by Unreal Engine 4. The minimum funding goal is set at a hefty 2 million dollars. 2 million shmillion! Within hours of going live, the campaign has already raised more than 1.3 million dollars. With 31 days to go, Shenmue III is probably going to smash the Kickstarter record for funding of a video game.

Don’t go getting too super, duper excited just yet though. Even once it’s funded, Shenmue III isn’t expected to release until December 2017. Oh who am I kidding? This is Shenmue III we’re talking about. You deserve to be super, duper excited.

Now let’s roll the video tape for proof that yes, these three glorious, long sought after games are really, you know, real.

The Last Guardian, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection Unsurprisingly Delayed http://www.vgblogger.com/the-last-guardian-ico-and-shadow-of-the-colossus-collection-unsurprisingly-delayed/9345/ Wed, 20 Apr 2011 02:07:32 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=9345 TheLastGuardian.jpg

Earlier this year Sony released a list of 20 exclusive games coming out for PS3 in 2011, with The Last Guardian and the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection taking up two of those spots. But now a 2011 release for both titles is in question.

When posting about those exclusive PS3 games, I stated towards the end that I didn’t fully believe that The Last Guardian would make it our this year, and it looks like my skepticism was warranted because the game has been officially delayed from its scheduled holiday 2011 launch to an undisclosed date sometime in the future. In all likelihood, that means it’s on hold until 2012.

The game’s director, Fumito Ueda apologetically explains:

I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011.

However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing.

All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality.

I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for “The Last Guardian” for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.

Not mentioned in that quote is the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, the HD remake compilation of the PS2’s two best games, and two of the greatest games ever created, in my opinion. But it too has been delayed, slipping out of its planned release for this spring. Like The Last Guardian, the collection has been postponed without a new target date, but here’s hoping for a holiday 2011 release followed by an early 2012 launch for The Last Guardian.

Is this the first of many high profile 2011 games to get pushed into next year? I’m guessing yes!

The Last Guardian Awes PS3 Gamers Holiday 2011 http://www.vgblogger.com/the-last-guardian-awes-ps3-gamers-holiday-2011/7171/ Thu, 16 Sep 2010 11:15:09 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=7171 The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus collection news is spectacular on its own, but remember, Team ICO is working away on a brand new game for PS3 too. That game, The Last Guardian, has been officially penciled in for a holiday 2011 launch date, and there’s a new all-gameplay trailer out now to prove it. Please join me in watching that so-ugly-it’s-cute rat bird thing make a little piddle and cough up a fur ball. Oh, and it helps out its little human friend too of course.

The Last Guardian TGS Update: Fumito Ueda Video Interview and Trailer http://www.vgblogger.com/the-last-guardian-tgs-update-fumito-ueda-video-interview-and-trailer/5198/ Thu, 24 Sep 2009 02:31:06 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=5198 Jeff over on the PlayStation blog just posted up this new The Last Guardian combo video from the Tokyo Game Show where, oddly enough, it was shown at the end of a White Knight Chronicles presser. The first half of the video is an interview with Team ICO Director and Game Designer Fumito Ueda revealing new insight behind the game’s development, while the second half debuts a new game trailer. The trailer is more of a teaser than the epic E3 trailer, but who cares, any new footage of The Last Guardian is a definite must-see.

[E3 2009] The Last Guardian’s Breathtaking Unveil http://www.vgblogger.com/e3-2009-the-last-guardians-breathtaking-unveil/4840/ http://www.vgblogger.com/e3-2009-the-last-guardians-breathtaking-unveil/4840/#comments Sat, 06 Jun 2009 14:00:24 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=4840 OK, so I’ve been patiently waiting for Sony to make the E3 trailer for The Last Guardian available for download, but strangely it’s like the only game missing from Sony’s E3 press site (it’s not even up on PSN yet). So at this point I’m just grabbing it from GameVideos. I’m sure you’ve seen it by now, but in case you haven’t, here it is. Of course if you’re like me it won’t matter if you’ve seen it before, you’ll gladly take any excuse to watch it again. Between the current trailer and the leaked one I’ve watched it a good 10-15 times now at least, and I still get goosebumps every single time!
