CES 2008: Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution

One more Logitech product here to show you from CES. The MX 5500 Revolution is an all-in-one cordless desktop kit that includes last year’s award-winning MX Revolution Laser Mouse and a keyboard, both utilizing Bluetooth 2.0 technology for reliable, hassle-free cordless use up to 30 feet away. The mouse is fully rechargeable and comes with its own “rapid-charging” dock and features the MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel that’s adjustable for rapidly scrolling through long text documents or standard web browsing and other content viewing.

Built using Logitech’s Zero Degree Tilt design for comfortable typing, the keyboard actually features an integrated 2.95-by-.79 inch LCD display that can be used to check the time, date, temperature, e-mail updates, web site favorites, currently playing media information and more — that’s pretty damn sweet if I do say so myself.

Both devices also offer various hot-keys designed specifically in mind for Vista users, providing one-touch access to special features like Windows Media Center, Photo Gallery, Windows Sidebar and gadgets, Flip 3D, and Zoom. A USB Bluetooth mini-receiver comes included in the box and instantly connects the mouse and keyboard to your PC right out of the box (the receiver doubles as a Bluetooth hub for other devices too). With the Bluetooth, it’d be nice if these worked with the PS3 as well, but none of the documentation lists it as compatible with anything other than Windows XP and Vista.

“With the proliferation of digital content, people increasingly need better ways to find and control their digital files with speed and accuracy,” said Denis Pavillard, vice president of product marketing for Logitech’s keyboards and desktops. “Announced last year, the MX Revolution mouse set a new standard for scrolling and computer navigation. By pairing the award-winning mouse with a premium keyboard and Bluetooth wireless technology, the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution gives people the ability to quickly and intelligently navigate the vast amount of information stored on their PCs and on the Internet.”

The Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution is due out in the US in late January and in Europe in February at a retail price of $169.99.
