There’s a brand new standalone Borderlands game set to launch this fall. On this planet it would be called an interquel, but in the crazy world of Pandora it sounds a whole lot more appropriate to be called Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. You’ll have to hold your breath a little longer for a true “next-gen” sequel, though, as this game is coming out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. No PlayStation 4 or Xbox One Borderlands for you. (At least not yet…)
As its title suggests, The Pre-Sequel, in co-development by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia, takes place between the first Borderlands and Borderlands 2, chronicling Handsome Jack’s rise to power as a megalomaniacal tyrant. For the first time, the game will launch vault hunters to Pandora’s moon for some low-gravity, zero-atmosphere, oxygen-powered jetpack shoot ‘n’ loot mayhem.
But wait, I haven’t even mentioned the best part of all. The Pre-Sequel will feature four new yet familiar playable characters classes, and guess what? Claptrap will be one of them. Holy shit, take my money already, 2K!
Get acquainted with the new crew of vault hunters:
– Athena, the Gladiator: Uses her Kinetic Aspis, which is a shield that can absorb incoming damage, then convert it back into energy to use against enemies. Athena made her debut in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for the first Borderlands game.
– Wilhelm, the Enforcer: Wilhelm was previously seen in Borderlands 2 as one of the first deadly bosses in the game.
– Nisha, the Lawbringer: The sheriff of Lynchwood from Borderlands 2, Nisha will be dealing out her own brand of justice, which we’ll discuss further in the coming months.
– Claptrap, the Fragtrap: Wait – Claptrap? The goofy robot companion from Borderlands 2, now playable for the first time? Fragtrap is his character class? Well, you can play him too!
Now watch as Randy Pitchford of Gearbox Software and Tony Lawrence of 2K Australia introduce Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in this new overview trailer.
