LOLOLOL OKAY, OKAY!!!
Is it just me, or when you watch those trailers, does it make you think “Man, either that guy sucks at turning, or the PSP analog stick sucks at controlling it?” Seriously, watching that trailer gives me no confidence in the PSP as a truly lasting brand aside from some nice rehash material and an exclusive God of War game!
Yeah, this Crazy Taxi game is looking a little rough (only time will tell if that’s how bad the game controls).
But dude, everyone needs to lay off the PSP bashing and actually play it and it’s games before knocking it. I play my PSP so much more now than I do my DS, it’s not even close. I loved the DS early on (and still enjoy it a lot, don’t get me wrong), but now all the games are starting to feel like the same thing to me. Most of Nintendo’s first-party stuff is like the same game repeated, just with a different mascot as the star.
Daxter, MGS: Portable Ops, Killzone Liberation, Monster Hunter Freedom, Medal of Honor: Heroes, the Lumines games, MACH, Ace Combat X, Call of Duty : Roads to Victory, Gurumin, After Burner, Dungeon Siege, LocoRoco, Field Commander, DJ series, Exit, Mercury series, Metal Gear Acid series, Pursuit Force, Valhalla Knights, Syphon Filter, R&C: Size Matters, Tokobot etc, etc. These are all sweet games, and they are all ORIGINAL for the PSP, not rehashes. Then ports and remakes like the Mega Mans, Ghosts ‘N Goblins, Metal Slug Anthology, Tekken, VP: Lenneth, Pirates!, Bomberman, Virtua Tennis, Gitaroo Man Lives!, Street Fighter Alpha, etc., are great too because they’re more than just straight ports (and I didn’t even include the PSP GTA’s- I don’t like them, but most do). I’d take all those titles (and the many others I have) over any other handheld’s library right now. Then there are some really cool upcoming games to look forward to like God of War, Crush, Crisis Core, Dracula X Chronicles, and Jeanne D’Arc. So the PSP is doing just fine in my book.
I understand where you are coming from, Matt. However, out of all the original titles you listed, I think there were only about five that I liked. The ports, don’t get me wrong, have been pretty sweet (ESPECIALLY Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins and Lenneth), but when it comes down to it…the handful of games you listed off only counts for about a fourth of the total PSP games that are out. I will say that, yes, the consoles suffer from the same thing, and especially the Wii right now. Only about a fourth of the games coming out are truly worth a damn.
However, the DS is a system where, regardless of what game I’ve plugged in, I’ve usually enjoyed the thing. It ranges for such a wide audience of people with everything from puppy simulators to Mario to educational software to Electroplankton (still a sweet piece of software) and so much more.
I’m just saying…Game Gear had some sweet games too…
Yeah, but do you own a PSP and have you actually played ALL of those games (and for an actual extended period of time at that)? I listed far more than a handful of games- any platform would be well off to have that extensive a list of solid original and port/remake titles, especially a handheld (and there are plenty more I didn’t even list too).
Also, some financial reports came out today and the PSP is selling really well (despite most of the mainstream media saying it sucks and that no one wants one). And I don’t care if you don’t like the PSP personally — different strokes for different folks — but to say the PSP as an overall brand won’t last is ridiculous. Just like with the PS3, the PSP is going to be around for a while and is going to get better as it goes, especially as more comes along to tie the two systems together.
I’m not saying the PSP will ever top the DS (as far as sales go), as Nintendo has the handheld market in its pocket, but it’s a damn fine portable system that gets bashed for no reason (well actually because everyone loves to rip on Sony lol). And don’t compare the PSP to the Game Gear, that thing was a piece of shit. The PSP’s library crushes anything that ever came out on that thing.
