Dark Horse Announces Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Comics

Gearing up for next week’s San Diego Comic-Con International, Dark Horse Comics has announced partnerships to publish comic series based on two upcoming video games.

Drawn by Marcelo Ferreira and penned by Larry Hama, the Call of Duty: Black Ops III comic will serve as a prequel to the military FPS of the same name launching this holiday season from Activision and Treyarch.

The storyline will involve “an elite group of cybernetically enhanced soldiers as they wage a secret war across a futuristic, war-torn world transformed by technology.” The first issue, which is set to release on November 4th for $3.99, will follow this team of cyborg super-soldiers on a covert mission to hunt down a double agent in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

If you’re heading out to San Diego Comic-Con, remember to swing by the Dark Horse booth to nab a free preview minicomic.

Working with EA and PopCap Games, Dark Horse is also producing a Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare interquel comic bridging the gap between the first game and its forthcoming 2016 sequel.

In the first Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare video game from Electronic Arts, Dr. Zomboss and his legions of zombie minions attacked the lush plant utopia of Suburbia. In the recently announced Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2, zombies have taken over, and now, for the first time in franchise history, the plants are on the attack. Delivering a story taking place between Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2, the Garden Warfare comic has the exclusive reveal of how Dr. Zomboss conquered Suburbia. The evil-genius leader is up to a whole new set of tricks—and this time, he’s succeeding, thanks to his mighty Imp and Z-Mech! But hope remains, as our zombie-battling champs Nate and Patrice discover horticultural help from the future and the past, and Crazy Dave misses out on an ice-cream cruise!

Paul Tobin, author of previous Plants vs. Zombies comics, is returning to write the story, with Jacob Chabot on board to ink the art. Watch for the first issue of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare in comic shops this October 28th for $2.99.
