Dead Island 2 Makes the Zombie Apocalypse Look Like a Dream Vacation

Zombie games–even the first Dead Island and its tropical setting–tend to be dark, drab and depressing. That’s not the case for Dead Island 2. At least if this first-look gameplay trailer is a fair representation of what the final game will be like. Sure, the detailed zombies look absolutely grotesque, and the dismemberments and overall level of gore are as gruesome as video game ultra violence gets, but somehow new series developer Yager seems to have found a way to make the whole zombie apocalypse motif cheery and lighthearted. I sure hope the story follows suit, as the first game and Riptide both tried too hard to be dramatic and failed at developing interesting characters. If Dead Island 2 continues to not take itself so seriously and simply focuses on providing a sunshine-filled Hollywood playground of zombie slaughter, it’ll be a winner for sure.
