Before Dead Space 2 haunts PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers early next year (January 25th), Dead Space Ignition will bring players up to speed on the events leading up to the sequel in an interactive “Choose Your Own Adventure” comic book puzzle game for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade — sorry PC players, no version for you.

Written by Antony Johnston, author of the original Dead Space comic series, and co-developed by Visceral Games and Sumo Digital, Dead Space Ignition will deliver its prequel story wrapped around three hacking mini games, including Hardware Crack, Trace Route and System Override. Specifics about how each mini-game will function hasn’t been revealed yet, but EA says they will deliver a “fun and satisfying arcade experience that will challenge players with puzzles and twitch gameplay.”

Additionally, the game’s “Choose Your Own Adventure” format will allow the story to unfold in many different ways, with four unique endings waiting to be uncovered. Each ending earned will in turn unlock a bonus item for use in Dead Space 2. So yep, Ignition is a pretty blatant DLC money grab type of a game. But hey, if it’s a good game no one will care.
