Guess what? Dragon’s Lair is now celebrating its illustrious 25th anniversary (it hit arcades in June 1983), and to commemorate the occasion Digital Leisure is offering a week-long 25% discount on all Dragon’s Lair titles from its website (all DVD, Blu-ray and HD PC DVD copies sold during this period will be signed by the game’s creators as well) and has even put together an extra-special giveaway. Between now and June 27th, you can enter for a chance to win a beautiful giclee print of Dragon’s Lair‘s opening castle scene autographed by the game’s creators, Don Bluth, Gary Goldman, John Pomeroy and Rick Dyer. The artwork is valued at $500!
Last but not least, Digital Leisure is also offering a limited quantity of 50 autographed movie-style posters. At $80 they are quite pricey, but remember, they are extremely limited edition and signed by the four masterminds that brought Dragon’s Lair into this world.
Dragon’s Lair came out during the last summer of my arcade-visiting era, as college started impinging summers as well … but I always found it over-hyped. It was expensive (50 cents back then!), and would often last ~2 minutes! I have thought about revisiting it again … dunno …
DL was past its prime when I was growing up, but during my arcade days I always loved playing and watching others play to see how far they could get so I could see more of the animation without paying for it myself ;).
I recently revisited it with the Blu-ray version that came out last year and I really loved it. The updated artwork is gorgeous and it has a lot of great extra options and bonus materials like a full-length commentary, interviews and stuff like that. Plus it has the option to just watch through the scenes without having to do the interactions. I don’t know if any of that extra content is on the other versions though.
