[E3 2008] Need for Speed Inspired EndWar’s Unit Upgrade System, Go Figure!

Here’s an excellent developer walkthrough video on Tom Clancy’s EndWar, Ubisoft’s PS3 and Xbox 360 RTS. Let me say, watching this walkthrough I think EndWar could very well revolutionize how RTS plays on a console. The use of the third-person camera really seems to bring the focus right into the heart of the battle and make commanding an army so much easier with a console controller than the usual top-down perspective. Plus there’ll be the whole voice command control system that eliminates need for a controller altogether, but that’s not demoed in this walkthrough. One interesting tidbit I picked up, however, is how the Need for Speed games inspired the Barracks unit upgrade system. I would’ve never imagined concepts in a racing series could be worked into a strategy game, so I thought that was a neat thing to learn about.
