Above and below are pics of the new WiiSpeak microphone accessory coming to the Wii this holiday season. Thought it won’t be packaged with Animal Crossing: City Folk, the first Animal Crossing Wii title will be the showcase game for its uses as a community voice chat device. As you can see in the top image, the WiiSpeak sits on top of the Wii’s motion sensor bar, and from this location it’ll act as a community microphone that picks up the conversation of the entire room, not just one person like a headset. While this may seem odd to more hardcore gamers, it keeps in line with Nintendo’s stricter online model. Having the voice chat open for all to hear will enable parents to monitor the online conversations and make sure their kids aren’t cussing up a storm or getting into any other nefarious online situations. The WiiSpeak will be sold separately later this year for $29.99.
