[E3 2008] PSP Getting Trophy System? Yep, Sure Sounds Like it!

Whoopsie! Looks like someone from SCEA accidentally spilled the beans on plans for a PSP Trophy system before they were supposed to. While chatting with GameSpot on their Live E3 2008 Stage Show about the new Buzz! PS3 and PSP titles, Emerson Escobar, producer for Buzz! Master Quiz on PSP, started talking about the game’s built-in medal system and then went on to describe an additional system that would reward trophies for specific accomplishments. GameSpot’s host then followed up asking if that meant a full Trophy system is coming to the PSP and Escobar sheepishly replied “Check back with us later.”

Go watch the video and fast-forward it to the end around the 12-minute mark. You can tell from his response (and the reaction from the lady sitting next to him) that he made a bit of a goof and that there is indeed a PSP Trophy system in the pipeline.

Honestly, this really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Given Sony’s announcement that users will be able to consolidate all of their PS3, PSP and PC accounts into a single PSN ID this fall (when Buzz! Master Quiz is coming out, by the way), it would make sense to have PSP trophies to accompany and tie in with the new PS3 system. For now it’s still a rumor simply because Sony hasn’t officially announced anything, but it’s coming, bank on it.
