[E3 2008] Resistance Seeks Retribution on PSP

Resistance_Retribution_Logo.jpg

After the jaw-dropping graphical displays put on this year by God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core, I honestly couldn’t imagine PSP games looking any better. But clearly the PSP still has plenty of power left to be tapped into, at least if Sony Bend’s upcoming Resistance: Retribution is any indication. I mean just look at these screenshots and the unveil trailer, the game looks almost too good to be true!

Resistance: Retribution isn’t just about graphical bells and whistles, however. With Sony Bend Studio, the team behind the exquisite Syphon Filter PSP titles, you can rest assured that solid gameplay will be in place to back up the pretty visuals. Unlike the FPS style of the two PS3 games, Retribution is actually a third-person shooter packed with all-new weapons, enemies, environments and a storyline that follows British Marine James Grayson in events that follow shortly after Resistance: Fall of Man and lead into Resistance 2. As you’d expect from a Sony Bend PSP effort, local and online multiplayer will be a strong selling point, too. You can look forward to engaging in eight-player, human-vs-Chimera battles in five different match types, you’ll just have to wait a while because Resistance: Retribution won’t be on store shelves until spring 2009. But trust me, it’ll be well worth the wait.

OVERVIEW
Developed by SCEA’s award winning Bend Studio, Resistance: Retribution is a third-person adventure designed specifically for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) handheld entertainment system. Utilizing their expertise in creating high quality titles for the PSP, Bend Studio has created an all new story, levels, weapons and enemies, as well as a proprietary targeting system that takes full advantage of the PSP control system. Their third generation PSP game engine pushes the system to its limit, allowing more detailed characters, special effects, and terrain that captures the look and feel of the Resistance universe on the portable system.

STORYLINE
Set in the weeks after Resistance: Fall of Man®, Resistance: Retribution follows the story of former British Marine James Grayson. After a personal tragedy – he is forced to kill his own brother inside a Chimeran conversion center – Grayson goes on a vendetta to destroy every conversion center he can find. Eventually Grayson learns that his efforts have been futile… in Western Europe the Chimera have evolved a new method of converting humans to aliens. The European resistance – the Maquis – enlist Grayson’s help, and he joins Cartwright and Parker in Operation Overstrike. The war to retake the European continent has begun.
