An epic battle of superhero MMOs is brewing. On one side we have Champions Online, the next game from City of Heroes creators Cryptic Studios coming to PC and Xbox 360 courtesy of 2K Games. Then on the other side is DC Universe Online for PC and PS3, an MMO from leading MMO provider Sony Online Entertainment that’ll bring players together with all their favorite heroes and villains from the DC comic book universe. PC gamers will get their chance to try out both, but on consoles potential consumers may have a tough choice on their hands in deciding whether to buy a PS3 for DC Universe or an Xbox 360 for Champions. Right now I’d have to give the edge to DC Universe Online myself simply based on the fact that it has the DC brand and characters. To me it just looks a whole lot better, too. On the jump you’ll find trailers for both titles. Check them out and see which one strikes your fancy.

DC universe just the far better game gameplay and graphics were champions looks like city of heros updated.
im gonna play DC!
DC universe looks rather generic in concept and didn’t show any real information about the game.
So do you even get to make your own heroes in DC Universe?…and why would one game make or brake your decision to spend an extra $300 or so on a PS3?–One game is the dumbest reason to buy a $600 system.
I didn’t mean it like one game should make you buy one console over another. With most games multi-platform at this point exclusives are more important than ever, so I meant it more along the lines of an important exclusive battle that could help push some consumers one way or another.
And yes, you do create your own hero or villain in DC Universe like any other MMO. You’re just playing in the DC universe (of course lol) alongside famous DC heroes and villains.
I agree, Champions looks like a polished City of Heroes.
Although I don’t want to trash the DC game as I know little about it at this point, I have serious reservations about handing the DC universe over to MMO gamers. I dread the day when S00perH0tCarl and L33tN00bKi11a’s guild/supergroup/whatever are camping or triggering Superman’s spawn for his phat cape.
In the Champions Universe, it doesn’t concern me as much what happens to any of the supporting characters, because they were written for an RPG setting, and not as iconoclastic as the Justice League, Legion of Doom, or Darkseid, who deserve more than being reduced to MMO fodder.
Well, that’s my opinion anyway.
to Jay Gon Ginn,
Hopw long has it been since ps3 been $600?! Get with the times. besides you would spend more on an X-Box nowadays with the Online play and headphones. Stupid!
Don’t forget that Champions is f2p from january so it’s i think a big plus for it
I’ve been playing DCUO since it went Free-To-Play… is it worth the subscription? Maybe but it is definitely worth FREE! If you haven’t played it then I strongly suggest you try it. You will not lose anything because it’s Free-To-Play… DC Universe Online is one of the best Free-To-Play MMOs today!
