[E3 2010] These Are Your 2010 Summer of Arcade XBLA Titles

Every year Microsoft hosts a summertime promotion for weekly premium Xbox Live Arcade titles, and up top is a montage previewing the 2010 Summer of Arcade lineup. This year, the Summer of Arcade will begin in July, and over a five-week span five 1200 MS Point titles will be released, including Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light, Limbo and Monday Night Combat. Release order and specific release dates have not been announced, but you can find info on all five games after the break.

“Castlevania: Harmony of Despair” (Konami Digital Entertainment) – 1200 Microsoft Points:
Dracula takes a bite out of Xbox LIVE Arcade with “Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.” This fast-paced 2-D side scroller takes vampire hunters on a chase to bring Dracula, the Lord of Darkness, to his eternal slumber. Designed by the producer of the legendary Castlevania series, Koji Igarashi, “Castlevania: Harmony of Despair” allows up to six friends to play together via online co-op story mode or duke it out to see who the best vampire hunter is in Survival mode.*

“Hydro Thunder Hurricane” (Microsoft Game Studios) – 1200 Microsoft Points:
“Hydro Thunder Hurricane” is the all-new, full-featured sequel to the legendary arcade racer. Blast across dynamic water surfaces that change in every play in rocket-powered speedboats and enjoy the gorgeous visuals and interactive environments. This is the first Xbox LIVE Arcade game where you can play locally split screens with your friends on the couch and challenge others over Xbox LIVE at the same time — battle up to eight players online. You also can pit your rocket-powered speedboat against 15 opponents in single player races and championships.

“Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light” (Square Enix) – 1200 Microsoft Points:
Tomb Raider heroine Lara Croft makes her debut on the downloadable stage with “Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light.” This first-ever co-op multiplayer action/adventure game featuring Lara Croft combines classic Tomb Raider hallmarks including exploration, discovery, platforming and puzzle solving, with character progression and fast-paced combat. Choose your own solutions and explore various paths through the dense jungles of Central America as you solve puzzles to defeat the evil Xolotl.

“Limbo” (Microsoft Game Studios) – 1200 Microsoft Points:
Uncertain of his sister’s fate, a boy enters ”Limbo.” This summer, experience his journey — through a world media are calling hauntingly beautiful and philosophically provocative — in this Independent Games Festival award-winning title.

“Monday Night Combat” (Microsoft Game Studios) – 1200 Microsoft Points:
“Monday Night Combat” takes you into the most popular lethal sport of the future. This third-person shooter blends intense combat, finishing moves and game show-like challenges to give you an action experience unlike any other. Rather than fighting for honor or duty, “Monday Night Combat” lets you fight for the real American dream: cash, fame and endorsements.

Is it sad that these Summer of Arcade games are more interesting to me than the majority of the games shown during the Microsoft press conference?
