Fable III Has One of the Niftiest Pre-Order Bonuses Ever

Pre-order bonuses have become pretty predictable these days. Except for rare occasions, pre-ordering a game typically rewards you with some form of DLC like character skins or special weapons, a pamphlet-sized art book, or maybe even a soundtrack CD if you’re lucky. No matter how frivolous, these are all nice freebies to grab if you’re going to buy a game anyway, but they really aren’t exciting any more.

Lionhead and Microsoft, however, are bringing some creativity back to the pre-order market, offering a clever Villager Maker tool to those who reserve a copy of Fable III for PC or Xbox 360. With the Villager Maker, you can create your very own villager to populate the world of Albion using the simple toolset to select from different appearance accessories and even generate a backstory by answering a variety of multiple choice questions. Then once the game is released you will receive a code allowing you to import your villager into the game, at which point he/she will provide you with an exclusive quest and 1,000 gold, then stick around to interact with throughout the rest of your adventure. Yes, it’s simple and shallow like most pre-order DLC, but at least it’s something clever and different.

You can begin tinkering around with the Villager Maker right now at http://lionhead.com/Fable3VillagerMaker, whether you’ve pre-ordered or not. However, you must place a pre-order to get the code required to import your villager into the game itself.
