Far Cry Returns to Its Tropical Roots, And I Like It

After an intense and satisfying yet equally flawed and disappointing jaunt to arid Africa in its second outing, Ubisoft’s Far Cry series returns to its tropical origins for the third installment, Far Cry 3, scheduled for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 release in 2012.

As you can see from Ubisoft’s live E3 demo and the accompanying handful of screenshots just underneath, Far Cry 3 looks absolutely stunning, with a richly detailed tropical world serving as a vast, open-ended backdrop to thrilling FPS stealth kills and shootouts.

As long as Ubisoft cleans up the tedious travel issues and annoying enemy spawn patterns that held Far Cry 2 back, Far Cry 3 appears fully capable of putting the franchise back on an elite level.
