24 of Guitar Hero 5‘s “85 songs by 83 artists” have been confirmed today. The initial set list includes hit tracks from the likes of Beck, Beastie Boys, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Coldplay, Tom Petty, Wolfmother and more. It is still amazing to me that it has taken this long to get Jeff Beck represented .. .and that he just got added to the R&R Hall of Fame. Here is someone who is one of the original ‘rock gods’ of the early 60’s, a true genre-bending innovator in rock and fusion, and the only one of his contemporaries who didn’t stop innovating and releasing creative material more than 20 years ago …

I’m really not surprised it takes this long to get certain artists in these types of games. Licensing all these songs and artists is much harder than I think a lot of folks realize. Which is why even though I find DLC songs too pricey for me at $2 a pop, I can’t get mad at the publishers for charging that much because it’s a fair price based on what they have to do to license the songs for the game.
