Do I REALLY need to comment on my opinions about NG for Xbox again? LOL I think anyone who visited BStage on a REGULAR basis know how I feel about this franchise.
So why can’t they just hang it up and stick to DOA?
Why would they hang up the franchise? It’s one of the most popular around. I’ve never played the original Xbox release, but I do have the PS3 remake and I think it’s pretty good. I’m not among the majority who think it’s like this all-time great game, but it was worth playing through.
Oh, and sorry, if any Tecmo franchise needs to go it’s DOA. I’ve never understood what’s so special about that series. With so many other great fighters out there like VF, Soul Calibur, Tekken, SF, Smash, etc., DOA is like a piece of shit in comparison, IMO. To me, DOA has always been all style and no substance.
HOWDY MATT!!! lol Long time no chat.
I just can’t get over the damned controls and camera. People keep telling me that it takes “skills” to use them…and I’m sorry, but if I can play some of the games out there that are virtually uncontrollable, then NG should’ve been a walk in the park. Sadly, it’s not.
I mean, I can rock Steel Battalion on Xbox…and yet NG is just unplayable for me!!! HOW DOES THAT WORK?! Sure, the games are pretty…but if I can barely play the thing, it’s not worth it. Plus, that camera…oh God, that camera!!! Hopefully, it’s all fixed and pretty with NGII, but I’m not holding my breath.
And yes, I’ll say that there are plenty of fighting franchises that are BETTER than DOA…but I have yet to see one as pretty, detailed, and polished as DOA. I don’t care about the jiggling boobs necessarily, although they are a nice addition, but they have a certain focus that is hard to find in other games. It’s not about combos. It’s about pure fighting for fighting’s sake. All the ones you listed are some of the greatest out there, but DOA is unique in that I don’t have to know all these button combos to be good at the game. I can simply pick up a stick, beat the hell out of someone, and do it with high-res character models.
As I said, I never played the original release of it and I believe the camera was touched up some for the Black and Sigma versions. It’s a pain at times in Sigma, but I didn’t find it unplayable by any means. And actually, it’s really not the camera’s fault. The level designs are pretty cramped in spots so there’s really no place for the camera to go even if it was perfect. Too many stages are confined to such narrow corridors.
