Nintendo has released word on two important Wii launch dates from the Game Developers Conference today. First and foremost, WiiWare, Nintendo’s new downloadable game service equivalent to the Xbox Live Arcade and PSN, is officially set to open its virtual doors and offer its original wares to the US market on May 12th! The first WiiWare titles confirmed for the service’s launch as of now include Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King and Frontier’s LostWinds, with Telltale also working on a new episodic game series. I’ll have screens going up in just a bit for Crystal Chronicles and LostWinds, so be on the lookout.
Exactly one week following the WiiWare launch, Wii Fit is set to hit North American retail store shelves on May 19th. Accompanying the release, the Wii Fit Channel will be activated in the Wii channel menu after first use of the software. After that, the Wii Fit Channel will provide an easy portal to daily workouts and fitness checks without having to launch the app or even have the game disc in the system. That’s pretty cool!
