The only thing better than video game soundtracks is, of course, free video game soundtracks, and today Aperture Science happily obliges budget conscious Portal 2 test subjects with the first of three free “aural stimulus packages.” If you aren’t fluent in science speak, aural stimulus package is the technical term for soundtrack.

The first volume in ‘Songs to Test By’, the Aperture-approved soundtrack for Portal 2, is now ready to stimulate your eardrums with 22 songs and over an hour of soothing, scientific melodies. Apparently, Portal 2‘s soundtrack is FAR larger than anyone knew, because this is merely the first of three downloadable installments. Was there really that much music in the game? I must’ve been too busy solving puzzles and listening to GLaDOS and Wheatley’s witty chatter to notice!

So far, ‘The Friendly Faith Plate’ and ‘Turret Wife Serenade’ are my favorite tracks, and you certainly can’t go wrong with the ‘Science is Fun’ main theme. Listen for yourself by downloading the 156 MB first volume of ‘Songs to Test By’ from the Portal 2 music page, where six ringtones for your Android or iPhone are also available.
