OK, so we already knew God of War III was on the way from Sony’s teaser at E3, but only today has the official announcement been made. Kratos’ concluding quest for revenge is in development at SCEA’s Santa Monica Studios for a PS3 exclusive release sometime in the future (still no date, not even a vague “it’s coming in 2009”). The game is powered by a new engine built from the ground up to get the most out of the PS3 hardware, promising texture resolutions and environmental scale four times that of God of War II, more fluid, life-like character animations, more enemies rendered on-screen at once, and even more interactive level designs.
“We have large shoes to fill following the success of the previously released God of War titles,” said Stig Asmussen, Game Director for God of War 3. “But with refined gameplay and jaw-dropping visuals, I guarantee that God of War will give fans what they have been eagerly waiting for, and much more.”
Check after the break for the debut gameplay teaser trailer that premiered during last night’s Spike TV Video Game Awards.
