Well, so much for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars being the big DS exclusive. Maybe it was always secretly planned as a timed exclusive or maybe the lower-than-expected sales have caused Rockstar to adjust its thinking, but whatever the reason may be the GTA game that both Mike and I agree is the best game in the series is now coming to PSP.
The PSP version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be out this fall on UMD at retail and as a digital download via the PlayStation Network. Not sure yet how a lot of the DS-only controls and interface will be adapted, but Rockstar has confirmed that the PSP version will feature “upscaled widescreen graphics, enhanced lighting and animation and including all new story missions.”

Interesting. I know sales have continued along … but still not at a pace that would make it even compare with the previous PSP games!
It will be interesting to track this – I haven’t found that DS owners are as touchy about exclusives as other consoles … including how upset PSP users have gotten about their stuff either being PS2 ports or quickly ported to PS2.
Sony fanboys always seem to act like the world is coming to an end when an exclusive becomes multi-platform, to the point where it seems they forget the game is still coming to their platform. Fact of the matter is you simply can’t expect any third-party game to be 100% exclusive anymore.
I agree – I think that ‘timed exclusive’ is the best one can expect. And what is the benefit for the consumer, anyway?
For the PSP I know there was a feeling that rather than optimizing the GTA games for PSP they were developing with PS2 in mind and then just putting them out for PSP first to grab more publicity / sales than a cut-down PS2 version would otherwise have gotten.
