My thoughts:
– It *is* Oblivion with Guns … but also so much more.
– It suffers vast quantities of ‘consolitis’, worse than Oblivion in that regard.
– It won’t satisfy the frothing hardcore NMA-type Fallout fans … but then I’m not sure anything would.
– It is a *really* good game, but I’m still seeing at least as much ‘Oblivion’ as I am ‘Fallout’.
– I’m only ~4 hours in, so it is way too early to render any sort of actual opinion … other than I need to get more screen time tonight!

Oblivion was good, but overall I thought it was a bit of a disappointment. Wasn’t nearly as good as Morrowind, I didn’t think.

I’d say Fallout 3 is much more than just Oblivion with guns though. Similarities are there, but it’s got more than just lite RPG elements to it.

Therefore the contrast of ‘Oblivion with guns’ compared to the classic Fallout games is particularly stark for me.

That said, the game is sitting in my bag since I picked up my pre-order at lunch … and hope to be able to comment more tomorrow.
