Killzone Tag Teams E3 with Mercenary and Shadow Fall

Sony will be banking heavily on the Killzone franchise to be a system seller for both of its newest platforms this holiday season, with Killzone: Shadow Fall being the main first-party exclusive blockbuster in the PlayStation 4’s launch arsenal, and Killzone: Mercenary aiming to be a rare triple-A killer app for the Vita and a console quality portable FPS that is better than “meh.”

Right now I’m honestly way more impressed by how Mercenary is coming along. Not to say that Shadow Fall doesn’t look great too, but I don’t know, what I’ve seen so far just isn’t completely blowing my mind like I want it to. I imagine it will be a lot like the first Resistance on PS3: a solid early demonstration of the PS4’s FPS capabilities, but nothing more. Which is fine, because it’s unrealistic to expect launch titles to truly tap into the power of the new hardware or push the boundaries of innovation.

Regardless, it sure looks like Killzone fans have a fun pair of games to look forward to playing in just a few more months.
