Magicka Creators Working on Modern Gauntlet Reboot

It’s another lousy, snowy Monday here on the east coast, but this news just made my day.

Gauntlet is getting a modern reboot, and it’s being made by Arrowhead Game Studios, the same crew behind the awesome cooperative spellcasting action-adventure game, Magicka. Talk about a match made in gaming heaven.

The new Gauntlet is due out this summer for PC via Steam (with full support for SteamOS and Steam Machines) as the debut title in the WB Games Vault, a new digital download label that will consist of games based on existing Warner Bros. and Midway brands, as well as all-new IP.

There isn’t a whole lot to know about the game at this point. Just like the good old days, the new Gauntlet is a 4-player arcade dungeon crawl starring four playable heroes: the Elf, Valkyrie, Warrior, and Wizard. The game will offer local and online co-op, character-specific combos and abilities, procedural dungeons, and a slick new game engine.

Watch the Gauntlet reveal trailer below to get your first look at Arrowhead’s rebooted vision for the arcade classic.
