The epic mascot face-off between Team Mario and Team Sonic now has an official date with the Nintendo DS. Sega has just announced that Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will make its way onto the DS on January 22, 2008. It’ll be packing plenty of exclusive content not found in the recently launched Wii version too (which kicks ass, by the way). The DS version is getting two brand new events — 10m Platform Diving and Cycling — and five additional Dream Events, including Dream Canoe, Dream Boxing, Dream Basketball, Dream Long Jump and Dream Shooting.
In all, Mario & Sonic DS will feature 16 Olympic events, eight Dream Events, 16 playable characters, three main play modes (Single Event Mode, Circuit Mode and Mission Mode), Single-Card and Multi-Card local wireless multiplayer, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection support for uploading high scores (no direct online play though) and a Gallery mode of Olympic trivia and mini-games. Here are some new screenshots of the portable mascot competition that awaits.
