Would you like for MonkeyPaw Games and Gaijinworks to release a physical version of PlayStation 3 dungeon crawler Class of Heroes 2G? Then let them know, dammit!
The game is already planned for a $34.99 digital download launch via PSN this spring, but there has been enough early fan interest to prompt MonkeyPaw and Gaijinworks to further explore the viability of a physical release, complete with Blu-ray disc and a case with reversible cover art, a full color manual, and a special serial number hologram so fans can show off the rarity of their super-limited boxed edition.
For the next 30 days, Gaijinworks will be accepting signups through a mailing list entry form found at www.gaijinworks.com. If 7,000 people submit an entry representing their desire for a physical release, the game will then become available for presale at a price of $39.99 plus $4 shipping (or $10 shipping outside of North America). If the boxed edition generates enough interest to go on sale, various cover art designs will also be put up to a vote. Basically, Class of Heroes 2G‘s fate as a boxed product is entirely in the hands of its fans.
The one thing I’m still waiting for clarification on, is if production of the physical edition is dependent only on the initial 7,000 signups, or 7,000 actual presales. By that I mean if the initial threshold of 7,000 mailing list signups triggers the presale but only a few thousand fans actually follow through and pre-order a copy after that, will the physical edition still be produced for those fans? I get the impression that the answer would be no, but the wording isn’t entirely clear. I’m in touch with MonkeyPaw for an answer to this specific question and will update this post once I get additional details. [Update] MonkeyPaw’s PR Manager Ryan Olsen just got back to me and this was his response:
“It’s all on good-faith. If we hit 7000 pledges, it will go into production assuming that everyone is going to purchase the copies they wanted.”
Nearly a thousand fans have already shown their support within the first day of the poll, so it looks like the chances are strong this limited edition is going to happen.
Whether enough fans pledge their support for a physical release or the game remains digital only, probably the coolest new feature in the PS3 version of Class of Heroes 2G, for players with the necessary hardware, is its optional dual-screen support which will allow a PSP or Vita to be used as a controller and a second screen to show information like character and creature stats, as well as dungeon and overworld maps.
Watch a video demonstration of the dual-screen play below. There’s a gallery with new screenshots down there as well.
