Sweet, Monolith got the F.E.A.R. name back! When WB Games bought the studio a few years back, they were able to hold onto the rights of the F.E.A.R. universe but rights to the F.E.A.R. brand name itself were left in the care of Vivendi/Sierra. In light of the recent Activision/Blizzard merger and subsequent cutting loose of many of Sierra’s brands, however, Monolith and WB saw the opportunity to jump in and buy the F.E.A.R. name back, and that’s just what they’ve done. That means Project Origin, the true heir to F.E.A.R., can now be appropriately titled as the sequel that it is. Thusly, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is now the game’s official title, an announcement Monolith made today on its Project Origin website freshly redesigned to reflect the name change.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (ah, doesn’t that just sound so much better?) is currently slated to ship February 10th, 2009 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
