OK, so we’re a day removed from the surprise unveiling of the Nintendo 2DS and the internet’s had its fun ribbing on and, as it always does, overreacting to the news. Has everyone settled down now? Yeah, I doubt it, but I’ll proceed anyway and stay away from all the unnecessary hate.
Honestly, the more I see of the 2DS, the more I want one. I don’t mind the fixed form factor and I sure as hell don’t care about the loss of 3D seeing as it’s a wasted feature I only ever use for about five minutes to start every game before switching off due to eye strain, quicker battery drain, and a minimal improvement in visual performance.
If you don’t like it, stick with the 3DS as is. There’s no reason to act all crazy over the damn thing though. Yes, it is further proof of Nintendo’s backpedaling on the initial hype of 3D, which doesn’t look good for the company. But it’s not like the 2DS is the new standard or anything. It’s simply another option to further broaden the platform’s audience at a lower price point. What’s wrong with that? Nothing, I say.
