More PS3 and Wii Launch Info

TRUStarLine.JPGTonight we’ve got a whole slew of information for all you gamers planning on finding your very own PS3 and/or Wii in two and a half weeks.

First, this information coming from the folks over at Mercury News. It seems that Sony may be getting a little worried about delivering on all of the pre-orders that have been sold in the recent weeks as today they released the following statement:

SCEA Statement Regarding Online Bulk or Discounted PLAYSTATION 3 systems

It has come to the attention of Sony Computer Entertainment America that a number of websites are currently promoting pre-order offers on discounted or bulk shipments of the upcoming PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. Such offers are not done with any cooperation from SCEA or its parent company. SCEA strongly recommends against consumers pursuing such offers, as their legitimacy cannot be confirmed. We recommend consumers purchased PlayStation products only from authorized SCEA retailers and resellers.

I hope this doesn’t mean that Sony is preparing to cut back North American shipments soon as they’ve done in Japan.

Also today, Kotaku reported a leaked list of 18 Best Buy stores around the nation that plan on having a midnight launch of the PlayStation 3. No midnight launches are scheduled for the Wii, but if you’re a PS3 line-waiting type of person here are the 18 stores to keep an eye on:

  • West LA, CA
  • Chesterfield, MO
  • El Cajon
  • Superstition Springs, AZ
  • Chapel Hill, OH
  • Richfield, MN
  • Galleria, TX
  • Butterfield RD, IL
  • Wester Hollywood, CA
  • Ann Arbor, MI
  • Gwinnet, GA
  • Hialeah, FL
  • South Tampa, FL
  • Mt Laurel, NJ
  • Manhattan NoHo, NY

Finally on the release front, I spotted the following UPC codes over at Digg earlier this morning. Basically, per the poster, if you take the following UPC codes to the video game section and ask the attendant to scan them in their system, s/he should be able to tell you how many PS3/Wii units the Wal-Mart is expecting on launch. Pretty cool for anyone eying Wal-Mart as their launch position of choise.
