Looking back on my most recent gaming experiences, I’d have to say one of the most satisfying games was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This was by no means due to its battle system, but just the level design and acrobatic puzzle solving needed to get from area to area really impressed me. Yes, the last boss was really a joke, but I think of the last battle more along the lines of how difficult it was to traverse the final level to get to him, which was extremely difficult.
Anyway, take a look at the below footage from Assassins Creed. This was developed by the same studio that put together PoP, and you can really tell that again navigating your environment is a very big part in accomplishing your goals and escaping pursuits. While this footage is from the Xbox 360 version, it is coming out for the PS3 as well so anyone with a next generation system will have the opportunity to experience this promising title.
This game looks so amazing, definitely one of my most anticipated upcoming titles. The animation quality and free-form interactivity alone is the next-gen quality gameplay I’ve been waiting for. I’m worried about some of the AI that was displayed in the demo though, like after they assassinated the target the guards just stood around watching until they started running. And the combat looked a bit dull, hopefully there’s more to it than blocking and counter attacking. As was said though, it’s an early build, so I’m probably getting a bit too nitpicky at this point :). But the game will rock for sure.
Definitely the game that I’ve been looking forward to above almost anything else. This game looks so epic and dynamic. The promise for something new and innovative is only further proved by this demo. It makes me so excited.
It must sting Sony that this title is no longer exclusive to the PS3. This would’ve been their bread and butter.
Oh yeah, Sony is going to be kicking itself for losing exclusivity on this one. Especially since Ubi wanted to make it exclusive to the PS3 but Sony took too long to finalize the development and launch plans so Ubi took it multiplatform. Since it started as a PS3 only title it’ll be interesting to see if this is a game that will actually have different performance between the platforms.
