Per a new teaser site that has just been launched, Square Enix is working on another new Final Fantasy game (reports around the web say it’s been announced for PSP, though the teaser page doesn’t give a platform). All the teaser site gives up is that the game is titled Final Fantasy: Dissidia, the character designer is Tetsuya Nomura, and that more will be revealed at Square Enix Party 2007, which takes place this weekend in Japan. So at least the wait to find out more won’t be long…

I think I’m finally jumping on the bandwagon and saying that I don’t really care about Final Fantasy games anymore. Don’t get me wrong, they are great. I’ve just gotten so used to the “do it yourself” style of MMOs that the linear path of Final Fantasy and so many other RPGs drives me nuts. BUT…sweet to hear that Final Fantasy is still expanding.
I sorta see where you’re coming from, as I don’t have the same enthusiasm for every new Final Fantasy that I used to, but comparing a Final Fantasy to an MMO is like comparing apples and oranges. They both may be RPGs, but they’re still two completely different genres of RPG. Unless of course you look at Final Fantasy XII, which I LOVE because it blends some of the character development and freedom of an MMO with a story and whatnot.
From what I’ve read (though nothing official has been announced), it sounds like Dissidia is possibly going to be some type of Smash Bros-style fighting game with Final Fantasy characters. If that’s true, that’d be kind of cool. It’d definitely catch my interest over just another RPG spin-off of the series. We’ll see what Squenix reveals about it this weekend.
